OSWA La distro Linux per il Wireless Hacking
OSWA (Organizational Systems Wireless Auditor) is one of the few distros explicitly devoted to analyzing security of wireless networks (WiFi and Blootooth). This makes it particularly suitable for everyday life, less and less tied to the cables. A curious aspect of OSWA is the presence of some specific tools for analysis of RFID (Radio Frequency ID). Using user-friendly OSWA differs from other distros to a number of improvements related to the "user-friendliness," from the menu. Unlike what happens in many other distros, all the tools of analysis appear in the menu system and can be started with a mouse click. It is therefore necessary to "navigate" on the CD to find the programs and do not need to launch from the shell. Secondly, this security distro has a kind of wizard called ActivityMap guiding you through the main types of tests, suggesting to use the programs and explaining how to collect the necessary information. Thanks to these measures, OSWA is more understandable to novice users, while remaining a powerful and complex, typically oriented professionals.
The opening is as simple as that of any Live distro: just insert the CD into the drive and restart your PC. What appears at the end of the bootstrap is a complete Linux environment, with a graphical user interface (KDE) and pre-configured in such a way as to be readily usable. As we have said, the menu system lists a great deal of analysis tools, ranging from generic to more specialized Nessus and Nmap AirSnort and AirSnarf for Wi-Fi and BlueBugger, BlueDiving BlueSnarfer and Bluetooth. The full list includes only about 50 instruments for analysis over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and RFID devices. The ActivityMap is a wizard that provides users a single point of access and a guide to the use of the programs. Technically, this is a collection of HTML pages residing on the CD. The text, available only in English, is typical of a tutorial. The individual pages explain the overall logic of the audit and describe the individual techniques that are used. The links allow you to run programs. The tutorial is divided into several sections: exploration of a network, analysis of vulnerabilities, etc.. For each of these are offered the tools and explains in broad terms how to use them. The detailed explanations on the use of individual programs are delegated to their guides. Reading the text and experimenting with programs you can get an idea rather precise than what the daily work of a security analyst. However, we must not delude ourselves to learn such a complex work without studying some good books and without a long practice in the field. In addition to GUI, you can launch and use almost all the programs also from the command line (shell). In this OSWA proving to be a Linux distribution to all intents and purposes, also suitable for experienced users. Practitioners are thereby also use the tools in the traditional way, driving with a precision unobtainable by other means.
